The Bucket List
You only live once, so why not go out in style? That?s what two cancer- ward roommates, an irascible billionaire (Jack Nicholson) and a scholarly mechanic (Morgan Freeman), decide when they get the bad news. They compose a bucket list ? things to do before you kick the bucket ? and head off for the around-the-world adventure of their lives. Sky dive? Check. Power a Shelby Mustang around a racetrack? Check. Gaze at the Great Pyramid of Khufu? Check. Discover the joy in their lives before it?s too late? Check! Under the nimble direction of Rob Reiner, the two great stars provide the heart and soul, wit and wiles of this inspired salute to life that proves that the best time of all is right now.
"You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you," says the quietly wise Carter Chambers, played with gravitas and grace by a Morgan Freeman. In Rob Reiner's moving, often hilarious film The Bucket List, all sorts of people measure themselves against the two heroes, Chambers and his hospital suitemate, Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson). But as Cole finds, having spent his entire life building a Fortune 500 company, none of that much matters when cancer, the great equalizer, pays a visit. The film traces the adventures of the two unlikely friends, who meet in a hospital cancer ward, each given six months to live. The "bucket list" of the title refers to a lifelong list of goals that a teacher of Chambers once advised him to compile--and achieve--"before you kick the bucket." Soon the two are off on what may be the last grand adventure of their life, vowing to tick off as many goals (skydiving, race-car driving, seeing the wonders of the world) as they can in the time they have left. What starts as a medical melodrama becomes a road trip, yet the men's mortality realities are never far from thought. The two leads give impressive performances, and remind the viewer of just how few American films focus on the lives and loves of senior citizens. Nicholson even manages to lose his persona in his character, much as he did in About Schmidt. There's a lovely John Mayer tune, "Say (What You Need to Say)," that's perfectly matched to the film's clear-eyed view of life: What does one person leave behind as his true legacy? --A.T. Hurley

The Bucket List Reviews
We didn't get to see it @ the Movie so receiving this over the holidays as a Gift was an Inspirational Gift too. Oh my gosh. It breaks that barrier where you don't judge a person by the color of their skin or how much $$ they do/don't have. I laughed & cried, even some tears stained my husband's face. I give it **********.
This is another flick to watch again & again. This movie was absolutely wonderful. No Violence or Drugs, what a breath of Fresh Air. Very emotional movie. It ws completely diffferent than what I expected from previews.
Like "As Good As It Gets" & "Driving Miss Daisy". AY With these "2" Great Actors, Freeman & Nicholson, you couldn't go wrong.
Really good movie to watch and watch again. Underlying message is one we should all take to heart. It's a keeper.
The two men are admitted to the same hospital room. The corporate millionaire finds it on the floor picks it up and reads it. The corporate millionaire and the scholarly mechanic initially are not at all interested in one another. Each has a missing piece in their life the other is destined to fill. You will not want or be able to move for sometime after the movie ends. Your head will be spinning with thoughts about your own life's "bucket to do list." When your head stops spinning, go the movie's website where you can complete a Facebook Application and create your own list.
The most important "to do" item in the end is love of family. The Warner Brother Pictures movie features the always irreverent Jack Nicholson as Edward Cole, the corporate millionaire and the perpetually levelheaded Morgan Freeman as Carter Chambers, the scholarly mechanic. I enjoyed Jack Nicholson's wildness and Morgan Freeman's love of family and learning. He interrogates the scholarly mechanic and proceeds to add to the list. Each of us has a different life timeline but the message is the same: live your dreams. The list varies from "sky-diving" to "kissing the most beautiful woman in the world.". Rob Reiner directed the film.
They travel and do what many of us dream of doing. I would recommend the movie to all ages. The scholarly mechanic begins a "bucket to do list" only to crumple it and throw it on the floor. Their friendship begins after each receives their diagnosis and therefore has something in common. The movie "The Bucket List" depicts the relationship between two men dying of cancer and how their unlikely pairing helps fulfill the unmet needs of the other. Soon both men are working together to complete the "bucket to do list" before they kick the bucket.
You don't know where the movie's going and Nicholson underplays his character perfectly. You already know what's going to happen when this billionaire (Jack Nicholson) gets put into a cheap hospital room with this poor Mechanic (Morgan Freedman). It's completely predictable, unreal, sappy and boring. If you want to see a great (sort of) recent Jack Nicholson movie that isn't predictable but depressing see "About Schmidt". Most Hollywood movies of the last twenty years have a formula and this one is no different. and you can easily guess what's going to happen through the rest of the movie.
It's about a Man that was forced into retirement and his world falls apart. This movie is another modern Hollywood piece of crap. For one thing this situation would never happen EVER. Of course they are both terminal and they don't like each other but you can tell that a relationship is around the corner. If you don't really want to pay attention to a movie but know what's going to happen, watch "The Bucket List".
0r is it an hour and 4O minute infommercial for Kopi Luwak and Chock Full 0' Nuts coffee. ls this movie a tale of two unlikely people going out in style together. Sure this movie summits Everest, but it also freefalls well past the jump zone.
