The Game of SCATTERGORIES

Scattergories is the crowd-pleasing, fast-thinking game from Parker Brothers. Roll the die and you have just seconds to come up with a band name, vegetable, shoe style and more, all beginning with the right letter. But be creative! If another player matches your answer, you get 0 points. With more than 190 categories and 20 letters the combinations and fun are endless. Game includes 6 folders, 48 category cards, 1 answer pad, 6 pencils, 20-sided die, 6 plastic cup strips, timer, die rolling board and instructions.

Scattergories is a fast-paced word game that's a real crowd pleaser. Each player takes a category list with 12 categories--such as vegetable, state, president, things you throw away--and must write down the name of one item that fits into each category. Sounds easy enough, but each item has to begin with a specific letter that is determined when the 20-sided die is rolled. For instance, you roll the letter "R." Your answer list for the above categories might look something like this: rutabaga, Rhode Island, Roosevelt, rubbish, etc. You have to think fast, because a round lasts only 3 minutes! Players score points for each unique answer. --Alison Golder

The Game of SCATTERGORIES Reviews

Can get repetitive after awhile but overall worthwhile :) Great game, especially if you only have 2 people.

This game is so fun. The more players the more challenging it becomes since a player does not get points if another player has the same answers. It's a classic. If the letter is R then each player has a list 1-12 of things. For example- Famous Person.

It's very fun. The game is played when a player rolls the letter dice and rolls a letter. You put something down for all 12 questions and then compare at the end. For R someone might put Roy Rogers.

I am always suprised by the creative answers people will come up with.

we have had this game for years, and still pull it out to play when we have company over,

A great party game, but alas I have retired from it because I argue on behalf of my words a bit too much. That three minutes of silence during the scribbling portion of Scattegories is the most intense three minutes in all of gamedom. I've been playing Scattegories since I was a kid and it was Scattegories that got me hooked on board games in general. It is possible to exhaust all of the cattegories if played enough times, but fear not because unlike many other games, Scattegories did make refills.

This is truely a game that you have to think, but don't have to be book smart. One thing we don't like about it is the timer is loud and its hard to think when all you hear is it going. It is a very fun game to play with a small or large group.
