The Gymnast
The staggeringly athletic bodies of the two lead s are a constant source of visual spectacle in The Gymnast. Fortunately the movie also has a solid story to offer: Jane Hawkins (Dreya Weber Lovely and Amazing) has lost all pleasure in her life: Her gymnastics career collapsed twenty years earlier due to an injury her marriage has turned sour and her job as a massage therapist has become a rut. When she gets invited to put together an aerial act using long strips of cloth instead of trapezes Jane finds herself revitalized--and surprisingly drawn to her acrobatic partner Serena (dancer Addie Yungmee). The tentative romance between the two is sultry and thanks to their aerial routines visually captivating. The Gymnast occasionally stumbles with some obvious dialogue and unpolished acting moments but it's a strong coming-out story that gives texture and depth to its characters. The character's physical prowess ultimately becomes a metaphor for their emotional strength but the movie also serves as a celebration of female athleticism. Weber and Yungmee's bodies are assertively sexy expressing as much power as eroticism. I think the movie is about finding yourself and empowerment. The actresses are real. they are gymnasts.not bad for acting.
This was a good movie. it was realistic and more like real life. The end of the movie was a bit slow. I liked this movie.
It just wasn't bringing the heat.or any kind of heat. I first saw this movie on a customer's 'Lists' for erotic movies. I think this movie's faults can be put in the writing department, and definitely the directing and the casting. Secondly, or maybe firstly, the main character, as a character wasn't very interesting or anyone that intrigued me, nor was the actress playing her.
I thought parts of 'The Piano' were more erotic than this movie, and for sure 'The L Word' series. I had several major issues with the film. All and all, a dud for me. And I never heard of it, so when I saw it on tv, I figured I ought to check it out, being an erotic movie.supposedly.
First, it took forever and a day (which is a really long time) for it to go anywhere, especially to the erotic part (which really isn't till 3/4 of the way through the movie).
It's not. The picture on the cover would lead you to believe this is a lesbian love story. Should be rated PG. It's another tired straight women wants to but then she doesn't want to.
