The Healthy Slow Cooker Reviews
The only drawback is not enough illustrations. So far, the recipes have been delicious but do require a bit of prep work. Overall a great cookbook to add to any crock pot collection. I also love that she includes all the nutrition facts on each page. Great cookbook with lots of original recipes.
It's not as much prep as people complain about. I hate to cook, and I love this book. If I don't use this, we end up with pizza or Chinese food or starving. I figure, it's 30-minute meals, but you do the work up front.
I'd say it's a good investment. I've been able to substitute for things that seem difficult to do, and things come out well. So it's a better option than those. How much do you LOVE that.
So this is great for those nights that my husband gets home first. I get home at 8 or 9 PM on some nights. And it's ready when you come home.
Claude Nothing prepared ahead as suggested or whatever. I normally cook and cook a lot every single day. Collect everything you have and that's it. The result. It is creative, simple and easy if you want it to be that way :). Delicious.
If the peppers are missing, too bad if they are not essential of course. You do not have fennel but have fennel seeds, that will be it. On the contrary of what the recipes advise, I throw everything in the pot and forget it. And a tip, you've put too much water. Simple: take the cover off. Take my word, don't bother, make your life easy. This slow cooker is my first one.
Enjoy,.
A good buy if you have time, but if you're looking for something that you expect from a crockpot (throw it all in and leave)., this one may not be right for you. The recipes aren't bad, especially health wise, but there's a LOT of prep.including sauteeing food before putting it in the crock pot.
If you read some of the reviews on this site you'd think that the author has you going to exotic and bizarre grocery stores and spending hours preparing these dishes. I highly recommend this cookbook as her approach to "healthy" food is moderate and logical. This is nutritious and thrifty. She uses almost no processed foods in her recipes (except broths but you can make those yourself) which I appreciate as we try to avoid those foods. I've tried probably half of the recipes in this cookbook and I have enjoyed them all. BTW, I live in a fairly small area and have been able to find all ingredients needed at my local generic grocery store. food product then don't buy this one.
Yep, you are required to chop up fresh fruits and veggies and add in whole grains and beans but isn't this what we should be adding to our meals anyway. This one outlines how you can create wonderful, filling, nutritious meals for your whole family. They freeze wonderfully so you can place them in individual portion sized containers to bring for lunch. If you're looking for a cookbook that has you open 5 different cans of salty foods and throw em all together for some mushy and unrecognizable (yet fast). Its simply untrue.
