The Night Sky 40°-50° (Large)

The Night Sky is a rotating star finder (planisphere) that allows the user to recognize the constellations for any time of night, any day of the year. The sky appears to rotate (due to the rotation and orbital motion of the earth), so to be successful recognizing the constellations a beginner needs to know which stars are above the horizon at any time.

This is the full-sized version of The Night Sky suitable for the 40°-50° latitude zone (northern United States and parts of Europe). We have versions for the following latitude zones: 50°-60°, 40°-50°, 30°-40°, 20°-30°, and the Southern Hemisphere. We also have pocket-sized versions available for the same latitude zones.

The Night Sky 40°-50° (Large) Reviews

The stars, displayed as black dots on a white background, are shown as larger or smaller according to their apparent magnitude, the usual astronomical convention. It is well constructed of durable material, and, unlike some, is double-sided, this permitting more detail on each side. This planisphere is the most user-friendly I have used. Obviously, copious detail cannot be shown on discs of this size, but Chandler's planisphere provides a satisfactoy depiction of the night sky and is quick to use. The names of the various objects shown are acceptably legible.

The chart was real easy to align for the date. This an excellent tool for amateur astronomers and has helped me greatly to identify sky objects. The two sided charts are unusual.

I got this product for a college course in astronomy and it's exactly what the professor asked for.works great for the class.

Ideal for the whole family as we all enjoy it. Compact and user friendly.

All in all, it wasn't a good purchase for me. I was disappointed that the planets were'nt identified and the print is too small for my old eyes.
