Sixteen seasons (and counting) of pop culture-rocking brilliance, the first four of which have already been gloriously archived on DVD. But in the words of Krusty the Clown: What has The Simpsons done for me lately? Well, how about all 22 episodes of season 5, each accompanied by commentary, deleted scenes, and other encyclopedic extras that hopelessly devoted Simpsons fans crave, no, demand? Season 5 is perhaps not as classics-packed as the third and fourth seasons, but no self-respecting Simpsons fan should be without the episodes "Homer's Barbershop Quartet," featuring George Harrison, "Cape Feare," one of Sideshow Bob's (and guest voice Kelsey Grammer's) finest half-hours, "Rosebud," "Springfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)," and "Bart Gets Famous," with the Springfield-sweeping catchphrase "I didn't do it." Plus, the star power this season is impressive: Michelle Pfeiffer as Homer's comely, donut-loving co-worker in "The Last Temptation of Homer," Albert Brooks as a self-help guru who unleashes "Bart's Inner Child," Kathleen Turner as the creator of Malibu Stacy in "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy," and, as themselves, the Ramones ("Rosebud"), James Woods ("Homer and Apu"), Buzz Aldrin ("Deep Space Homer"), and even Robert Goulet ("Springfield"). But it is the writers and the core ensemble cast who exhibit, to quote "Deep Space Homer," "the right... What's that stuff?" Series milestones include the first appearance of yokel Cletus in "Bart Gets an Elephant," and Maggie's infant nemesis, The Baby with One Eyebrow in "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Badasssss Song," which also happens to be The Simpsons' 100th episode. Add in a very good "Treehouse of Horror" episode, (which outs Ned Flanders as the Devil and Marge as the head vampire), and one Emmy-nominated musical extravaganza ("Who Needs the Quick-E-Mart" from "Homer and Apu"), and you have a Simpsons season that's not just great, it's DVD-box-set great. --Donald Liebenson

The Simpsons - The Complete Fifth Season Reviews
Season 5 has many episodes that I remember that I haven't seen in a long time. This has to be one of my favorite seasons of the simpsons. It is so great to own these classics on DVD.
I will order from them again. Its just like new and they sent it right out. We resived it very quickly.
I RECEIVED MY SIMPSONS FIFTH SEASON IN LESS THAN A WEEK AND IN GREAT SHAPE.THE BOX WAS IN NEW CONDITION AND THE FOUR DISCS WERE FLAWLESS.
The Simpsons is simply one of the smartest, funniest shows there is, and season 5 is right in the wheelhouse of so-called "Golden Age" Simpsons (running roughly from season 3 to season 9). This season surely is a pleasure to watch and you'll watch it over and over again.
6. `Marge on the Lam'. * Martin: "When will we be able to see a finished box, Sir.". You want the truth. * Homer: "I'm a white male, age 18 to 49 - everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are." (grabs a can marked `Nuts & Gum: Together at last.').
* Homer: "Marge, that's twice - I think you're spending entirely too much time with this woman.". * James Woods: "How can it be the same movie if they've changed my character from a tightly-wound convenience-store clerk to a jittery Eskimo firefighter.,,,uh-huh.Mm-hm.well, actually that's a pretty good explanation.". `Lisa vs. Good luck.". * Smithers: "Oh.goodie.". * Homer: "Marge, don't discourage the boy.
3. `Homer the Vigilante'. `Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song'. `Treehouse of Horror IV'. 17. * Karl: "I dunno, something about being gay.". You can't handle the truth.
* Willie: "Me mule wouldn't walk in the mud - so I had to put 17 bullets in `im.". I hope you can get a laugh out of them too. `The Boy Who Knew Too Much'. * Homer: "So I said to him, `Look buddy, your car was upside down when we got here. 10.
* Milhouse: "Wow, Joseph of Aramathea - 26 conversions in A.D. 20. 12.
* Kent Brockman: "Things aren't as happy as they used to be down here at the unemployment office. * Marge: "I know you think the Junior Campers are square and `uncool' but they also do a lot of neat things, like sing-alongs and flag ceremonies.". The last thing The Simpsons needs is another champion, so I won't preach about how great the show is (please see below).
* Skinner: "'Please excuse my handwiritng, I busted whichever hand it is I write with. 21. `$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)'. In fact, we're going out again tomorrow night.".
`Deep Space Homer'. * Homer: "I want everyone to know that this is Ned Flanders, my friend.". * Nelson: "Yeah, nice shoes.err.Two-Feet.". 1. 19.
* Babcock: "I suggest a lengthy, ineffective seach - at the taxpayers' expense, of course.". `Homer's Barbershop Quartet'. * Benjamin: "Oh - including all known actinides and lanthanides. In this sense therefore, there is likely to be a few gems in this set which may have evaded even avid viewers for a year or two at least. * Bart: "Oh boy - free trading cards.". 15.
Coz when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face - you'll know what to do. 11. * Homer: "Oh my God. * Smithers: "Ahem.". 46.". All in all (whilst not my own all-time favourite) a classic season with some canonical episodes.
* Homer: "Well, these bills'll have to be paid out of your allowance.". * Sherri & Terri: "Nice glasses, Four-Eyes.". `Cape Feare'. I have chosen a line or exchange of dialogue from each of season 5's episodes that always amuses me (as opposed to episode synopses) and listed them below.
`Bart's Inner Child'. * Brad Goodman: "We can all learn a lot from this young man here, this.". * Marge: "Homie, you know it's funny - both my mother and your father seem pretty lonely.". `Homer and Apu'. * NASA Guy: "I wish there was an easier way.". * Lenny: "What did he say.". * Smithers: "Look at all the wonderful things you have, Mr Burns: King Arthur's Excalibur, the only existing nude photo of Mark Twain, and that rare first draft of the constitution with the word `suckers' in it.". 18.
* Homer: "Meh, I'll write it on my hand.". . `The Last Temptation of Homer'. 13.
* NASA Guy: "People - that's who we need for our next astronaut.". No one listens to you.". * Burns: "Now I have no one left to leave my enormous fortune to.".
I call it `Billy and the Clonosaurus.'". Mailbu Stacey'. . 22.
14. * Benjamin: "Come on Mr Simpson, you'll never pass this course if you don't know the Periodic Table.". That's done in Flint, Michigan.". Someone's trying to kill me. 9. 16. Oh no, my dear friend - I've planned a far greater reward for you.
* Marge: "I'm disappointed in you, but it turns out I had a wonderful time with Ruth Powers. And as for your grandma, she shouldn't have mouthed-off like that.'". `Secrets of a Successful Marriage'. * Burns: "You, Smithers. You want the truth. * Nelson: "Woah - a Methuselah rookie card.". * Homer: "Then that's what I'll do, smart guy.".
* Homer: "Hehehehe - that is funny.". 5. When I pass on you shall be buried alive with me.". The whole freakin' system is out of order.
The Simpsons' fifth season (1993/94) falls just short of the radar in terms of the apparent attempts (by British TV at least) to rerun the show into submission by scheduling every episode from seasons 6 through 9 in almost weekly rotation. Oh wait, it's for Bart.". `Homer Loves Flanders'. `Bart Gets Famous'.
Forget it Marge, it's Chinatown." * Bart: "You'll have to raise my allowance to about $1,000 a week.". * Skinner: "Now I finally have time to do what I've always wanted - write the great American novel.
7. 8. No one listens to you.". `Boy-Scoutz N the Hood'. `Rosebud'. . * Bart: "Rutiger.".
`Bart Gets an Elephant'. * Lisa: "It's awful being a kid. `Homer Goes to College'. Signed Mrs Simpson.' You were right to be suspicious, Edna.".
Mine is about a futuristic amusement park where dinosaurs are brought to life through advanced cloning techniques. Joblessness is no longer just for philosophy majors - useful people are starting to feel the pinch.". 2. `Burns' Heir'.
What I will say is that the commentaries are both amusing and informative in their own right and have ultimately served to enhance my appreciation of the show. 4. * Grandpa: "It's rotten being old.
* Box Factory Guy: "Oh, we don't assemble them here. Weaselling out of things is important to learn - it's what separates us from the animals.except the weasel.". `Lady Bouvier's Lover'. * Homer: "I'm not out of order - you're out of order.
