The Ten Commandments (50th Anniversary Collection)

For sheer pageantry and spectacle, few motion pictures can claim to equal the splendor of Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 remake of his epic The Ten Commandments. Filmed in Egypt and the Sinai with one of the biggest sets ever constructed for a motion picture, this version tells the story of the life of Moses (Charlton Heston), once favored in the Pharaoh's (Yul Brynner) household, who turned his back on a privileged life to lead his people to freedom. With a rare on-screen introduction by Cecil B. DeMille himself, this unforgettable movie experience is enhanced by a Dolby surround stereo soundtrack.

Legendary silent film director Cecil B. DeMille didn't much alter the way he made movies after sound came in, and this 1956 biblical drama is proof of that. While graced with such 1950s niceties as VistaVision and Technicolor, The Ten Commandments (DeMille had already filmed an earlier version in 1923) has an anachronistic, impassioned style that finds lead actors Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner expressively posing while hundreds of extras writhe either in the presence of God's power or from orgiastic heat. DeMille, as always, plays both sides of the fence as far as sin goes, surrounding Heston's Moses with worshipful music and heavenly special effects while also making the sexy action around the cult of the Golden Calf look like fun. You have to see The Ten Commandments to understand its peculiar resonance as an old-new movie, complete with several still-impressive effects such as the parting of the Red Sea. --Tom Keogh

The Ten Commandments (50th Anniversary Collection) Reviews

DeMille. Charlton Heston was great as Moses ,Yul Brynner was great as the Pharaoh and Cecil B. DeMille was a great director. What more can be said about this great movie.

Eagan. The Ten Commandments (50th Anniversary Collection) (1956) Starring: Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner Director: Cecil B. If you are interested in the hope of God I suggest you read a great book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," by John H. It brought me to tears.

If you're so inclined, I found this beautiful new book about Jesus, faith, God and what we will do in the after-life entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," by John H. A sheer spectacle for the eyes and ears. I think you will really enjoy The Enlightenment. Beautifully done by film director Cecil B. It brought me to tears. The Ten Commandments (50th Anniversary Collection) (1956) Starring: Charlton Heston, is one great movie.

I just finished it. Heston was great as Moses and Yul Brynner was great as Pharroh. Eagan. It's really great and deals with God, the creator, Jesus' teachings, and His Passion to the last detail. DeMill.

Now that I have it, I can watch it any time I want and show it to my grandchildren. A great movie. Have always wanted to own this movie. I received it in very good condition with no shipping problems.

This is a must have to any decent DVD collection. This version of the movie is wonderful. It was a tough choice between the two great actors to decide who has done a finer performance and I had to settle on Yul Brynner as my personal best. It truly shows the masterpiece of a movie that Cecile B Demile created. Of course Charlton is wonderful, however Yul does his Rameses bit with such conviction, that history comes alive in my eyes.
