My dad introduced me to the UV filters. Not to mention they help protect from dirt and other things of that sort. Get a UV filter for your lens. I came close to breaking a lens before but thankfully I had a UV filter on my lens. Its not really so much the UV filter but the fact these things save lenses from breaking.
Extremely disappointed. My older filter on a film camera gave a very nice dark blue sky on almost every single shot I took. This filter does not give the same quality, nor the dark sky effect I hoped for on my EOS 30D DSLR. I bought one and am very disappointed with it.
I have experience with Hoya filters and have always been pleased with their build quality. I find the filters great for both the protection they provide and function they serve. I purchased this filter from Amazon based on positive reviews I read here. As others have written it was also very dirty as though it had been handled. The glass in this filter is not fixed, in fact it doesn't fit properly.
I have returned the Tiffen filter as of today and ordered the Hoya. The filter is very poorly made, I am shocked that so many rated this highly. Normally the reviews on Amazon are accurate indicators of quality. I'm guessing somebody else was unhappy and returned it. The glass moves back and forth in the casing,it is as though the filter housing was made for a much thicker piece of glass.
I am very satisfied with the results. I purchased this UV filter for use with my Nikon D300. I recommend this seller and would purchase again from the seller due to great pricing, accuracy in product description and quick shipping.
Wish I had purchased it when I bought my lens. The nice thing about a filter is you can worry more about taking pictures and less about protecting your lens. Just used this filter in Hawaii and it protected my lens from the salty sea air near the beach. Definitely recommend getting a cleaning kit to accompany the filter. Good price and no noticeable picture degradation when using this filter. Ordered this filter from Amazon after I bought my camera.
