Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 DVD Reviews
The scenery is gorgeous and everything runs smoothly with full details (on the auto adjustment setting) on a P4 3.0 GHz rig with a Radeon X1950 GT. However, if you do enjoy golfing there's a good chance you will like this game. The custom character system is similar to the system used in The Godfather where you can adjust the character's facial and body features. Some of my complaints about gameplay pertain to how the bystanders get in the way of some of your shots. You can also accessorize your player with real-world products like Oakley M-Frame sunglasses, Oakley watches, Adidas Traxion golf shoes, Ping/Callaway/Taylormade clubs, and different types of clothing. Granted, PGA Tour pros generally do not aim for the rough or bystanders, it just seems odd that many of my balls would hit a bystander/spectator and bounce off them like it just hit a wall. Overall: If you don't like golf, you will NOT like this game (obviously).
I also wished there was a way to control your character like one from a first-person shooter, where you can walk/jog your way to your ball or tee box and then address the ball. OUCH would probably be a better result. Pros: Robust graphics engine, excellent sound effects, intuitive user interface, and bug-free. The installation of the game takes a bit long due to the large number of MP3 commentary files. While Hybrids are relatively new in the sport of golf, they are slowly overtaking the sale of fairway woods and long irons.
Cons: No way to update clothing/accessories to reflect current golf fashion, bystanders/spectators are treated as unmovable solid objects, and you can't control your character like in a first-person shooter. I've paid more for games that provided much less value. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 is quite simply one of the best golf games ever. With respect to the software developers, they could not have foreseen changes in clothing lineups, but I kind of hoped there was the ability to import new clothing products so you can keep your character "up to date" with golf fashion. I am really into first-person shooters (Battlefield 2, Rainbow Six), racing games (GTR2, Race 07 WTCC, Need for Speed), and adventure games (Oblivion) and found it easy to become immersed in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. My gripe is that while the game was released in 2007, much of the clothing/accessories were based on those available from 2005-2006. There is a lot of potential for adding vehicles and other tweaks found in games like Battlefield 2 while maintaining the seriousness of PGA Tour golf.
I just felt that EA should have focused on the latest in golfing equipment as well as the tried-and-true traditional clubs. You can start golfing as soon as you finish the installation.
The graphics are very detailed and precise. Granted, none of these are in the "spirit" of professional golfing, it would fall within the scope of computer games and simulations and add a certain sandbox appeal to the genre.
I found it to be a bargain especially with the quality of the graphics and interface. There is also a LOT of potential for implementing vehicles, such as golf carts, into the game where you can drive it around and wreak havoc in a multiplayer game with some buddies.
The game does not include hybrid golf clubs, like Taylormade's Rescue line of hybrids. One can also select a randomly developed player, or select a PGA Tour pro such as Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam.
The sound quality is top notch. The ambient noises such as duck quacks and bird chirps immerse the player in the golf environment.
There are a variety of games (stroke, skins, elimination) that will allow for multiple players. It didn't on my laptop Overall this is a treat to play. This is the best Golf Game that I played so far. First, There is no shot counter which is annoying but you can live with it and there is no leaderboard that can be accessed during a hole is again small but annoying esspecially when playing multiplayer.
I recomend that you purchse a 3rd party arcade controller (XGame-XArcade)with a 4in trackball for better play than a mouse. A variety of realistic courses to choose from to play and you can choose a variety of conditions as well. With experince you accumulate $$ to upgrade your equipment and clothing. There is a few things I did not like or wished it had. Players can craft their own character with attributes and improve your game with every round played from novice to pro.
Last and most important. This game does not support all video cards b4 buying a copy go to EA and check to see if your card will work with the game. You and your buddies will really get wrapped up playing this.
But fun none the less. Fun game, a great deal slower than 2006 in the graphics loading area.
there are some new thing to get use to. It has some grate looking graphics. And new corses to play. I like the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 DVD. It has inproved over the 06 game. A very fun game to play with frends. But over all it plays about the same.
A must buy for golf fans as well as sports fans alike. To be honest, Tiger Woods 08 is a lot like the other ones in this best selling franchise, but there are some differences worth noting. These confidence drills are saved and analyzed to identify your strengths and weaknesses to improve your game.23 golfers and 14 courses make this game a treat, as well as the game face feature which allows you to make a pretty freaky replica of yourself to play on the course.Add in the ESPN ticker with updates and breaking news and you have a game that is fun and challenging at the same time. First off, the tiger challenge mode has been greatly expanded with all aspects of a golfing game included. Also, there are confidence drills sprinkled in to help you gain an edge down the road.
