The Timex T78131 Youth watch is reliable, durable, and readable in the dark, thanks to the integrated Indiglo night-light, but it's also flat-out fun to wear. This quartz analog watch features an easily readable, full Arabic numeral display and smaller 5-minute notations on the outside of the dial. It also has a small ladybug that rotates around the dial with the hands, and a comfortable elastic fabric strap (for better dirt and stain resistance) with ladybugs against a purple base. This watch also offers water resistance to 30 meters (100 feet), durable translucent purple resin case, different colored hour and minute hands, and Timex's unique Kids Loss Protection Plan. I wish I had read the other review that mentions this. My son has one of these with the regular minutes and it worked wonderfully with him, so I didn't even think to check for that when ordering online. For example, the minutes read "20" at the 40 mark. But I would recommend instead any of the other designs that count forward from 5 to 55. My 4-year-old loves this cute ladybug watch, otherwise I would exchange it for a different design.
The Indiglo light is great, too. For someone learning to tell time, she thought it was 2:20 when it was actually 2:40. Otherwise it is a wonderful watch. The idea is that you would read it "20 til 3" instead of "2:40". My husband thinks this is great, but I think it's annoying.
On this design the minutes count backwards after 30.
It definitely takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I have been wearing these for at least 8 years, and I absolutely LOVE them. It holds up to anything I do, from gardening to work. Probably would be great for kids too, but my boys are a little old for stretchy bands, but I don't believe that even they could have damaged these watches. I buy this watch for myself several times a year. I do find that the band stretches out a bit over time, that is why I order them 2 times a year.
I was surprised by the "slide" clasp on this watch. Other watches tell you in the description what kind of clasp it has (a buckle is what I was expecting) but this one does not give that information. It just won't work for my active little girl. It's easy for the band to slide thru and fall off, especially with active little hands. I think I'll return it even though it's a nice watch.
Besides, what's better than her own words above. The stretch band is easily adjustable and does not scratch them like the velcro ones. From my 7 yr old's mouth: "It's so cuteA ladybug for the second hand." Indeed, this watch is not too bulky for little kids.
Perfect for teaching kids to tell time on their own. Replacement policy seems generous, too. And stylish to catch their eye, in many themes. Divisions for 5 minute groups and easy to read numbers assist in counting.
