Timex T617S Nature Sounds Auto Set CD Clock Radio with Smart Knob Tuning and MP3 Line In (Silver) Reviews

The alarm is easy to set. This is a great clock Radio. Nice large numbers and alarm icons. Only problem is the first one we ordered had a broken knob and had to be returned.

In only a few weeks of use, and not using CD or MP3 player, it just stopped working. Became impossible to read time, set alarm, play radio, or turn off "nap" setting timer. All of the controls either stopped responding or began to operate other functions in a chaotic way. Got this because of some good reviews, mainly because it seemed to have an easy to use interface. Over all, probably a design flaw that places sensitive controls in an unstable, risky location on the device. The basic problems seem to stem from the location of many of the controls on the front panel which is a CD door that opens and closes.

I found having nature sounds, am/fm, alarm, cd player, and mp3 compatible appealing. I was concerned this week because the cd player stopped working. I tapped the alarm on both sides and it plays again. The cd would spin, but no sound. I bought this as a gift.

It had worked until recently. I will keep you posted if issues occur again with the cd player. We've had this radio since December 2007. I still highly recommend it.

I prefer ocean sounds to nod off to, but being a beach lover, I know that all living things sleep. So why are the soothing sounds of ocean waves punctuated by screeching gulls (choice #1). I placed my order on Monday and Wednesday went to sleep knowing I'd wake up on time. I settled on the chimes (choice #3), though I wonder if the methodical traffic on my busy street might be as easy to adjust to. I don't find the mating calls of frogs in a rain forest (choice #2 conducive to relaxation either. I agree with other reviewers that the nature sounds are disappointing. There's a time and place for everything and I wish the frogs had a curfew. I also don't quite get the bright night light coming on when you select sleep.

I'd rather turn on my 99 cent night light if I need it and be able to see the time on a modestly lit display than have to turn the clock to the wall to avoid the annoying bright blue glow. The turnaround time was terrific. If you need to get up during the night and need a light, if the sleep timer has run down, the light will have turned off. On the bright side (no pun intended), the radio is lots easier to set than its older version and the sound quality is what you'd expect for the price.

I'm returning mine. The light that comes on when the CD/radio/nature sounds is even brighterbright enough to read by. I didn't. I use a sleep CD, so this requires that I turn on the CD player and reset the "Sleep" function each time I wake up during the nightnot helpful.

A couple of warnings other reviewers haven't mentioned: if you have headphones plugged in, the alarm WILL NOT sound over the speakers. Also, it's a little complicated to set the alarms. Better yet, it should simply WORK. Second, the CD repeat function only repeats once. Within a week, the CD was malfunctioning. Once it wouldn't turn on at all. Finally, even at its dimmest setting, the display is bright in a dark room. If you don't need the CD player, this clock may work for you.

On other occasions, it would start making a strange noise and turn itself off soon afterwards. For the quality, this clock should be half the price or less. There's no reason a manufacturer should have such a hard time producing a product that performs as it ought to. So if you take off the headphones during the night and don't unplug them, you won't hear the alarm. This clock had many features I wanteda CD player, headphone jack, nature sounds, dual alarms. When I saw how many people had problems with it, I paused, hoping I would get lucky. CD players have been around a long time.
