Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive HDDR320E03X Reviews

It however is not a true 320 GB. OK first off I own a 120 GB Toshiba and I love it. Its a extra $3.64, but if it works its still cheaper. I got only about 298 gb out of it from my desktop. I found the answer on a blog that stated you needed a powered usb cable for this HD so im going to order it and see if it works. I could not get it to work on my laptop ( which i admit is not the newest a dell d600). I called Toshiba about the problem and 3 phone numbers later I still had no answer. I got this one thinking it was a better deal than going to my local super store.

No faults with this nice USB drive. Easy to use with the scheduled backups. The only down is the provided USB cable should be a bit longer. Once installed it's one of those rare devices you can essentially forget about. The resident software loaded quickly and flawlessly.

It is unbelievably slow, due to its USB connection. Of course, the files were lost or rendered useless. More importantly, the drive's erratic behavior has resulted in my losing valuable files and has caused me hours of needless work. I have had no trouble with Firelite or Western Digital drives, and would recommend them over this poor piece of engineering. I have given up using the Toshiba external drive.

Just getting it to connect to and be recognized by my computer was always a problem. I should point out that I've been using the drive with a MacBook Pro, and maybe the drive isn't truly compatible with Mac products. If you want to store large files or lots of data, the USB connection is a real disadvantage. However, you'd never know that from the information on and in the box, both of which say it is Mac-compatible. However, after a couple month's use, it began to repeatedly and unpredictably appear and disappear from my desktop - sometimes in the middle of saving files.

I've had this since earlier this year and used it extensively to transfer homemade video and photo files among my PCs, as well as to back up one of my laptops. Shaped like an iPhone/iPod Touch and weighing about 4.5 oz, it's fast (for a 2.5-inch USB 2.0 drive) and reliable, and easy to carry. It's powered purely by USB 2.0; no AC adapter power possible. I'm really happy with this drive and can recommend it without reservation. It's also whisper-quiet and doesn't get hot like some external drives. Now that the 400GB version is going for about 110 dollars, I'm buying that one, too. I've used it on over a dozen laptops, including old Win2k machines, and have never had a problem. (BTW, it comes with backup software for PC and Mac, but for backing up my VAIO laptop I just use Vista's built-in backup utility).

I have no complaints, and easily recommend it. This external harddrive right out of the box has worked very well.
