It really worth for the price. I was lucky to get this laptop at $879.
just in case you were wondering how many laptops this authorized postal service receives from customer and ships out for repair every month - ".about 30" is the answer that I got. As for my input. Let me assure you, if you're planning on purchasing a Toshiba laptop, you are not. Please, google "toshiba laptop complaints" and get the REAL reviews. NEVER buy a Toshiba laptop.".
clerk: "With the ammount of them that we ship back every month, I never would.". me: "Man, let me tell you something. Good luck. this is a conversation that took place in an authorized toshiba shipping store:. If you're reading this review right now, then chances are you want to make sure you are making the right choice.
After setup and pressing power button, only the icons on kb lighted but screen was blank. Toshiba's new Portage M800 with 128 GB ssd is one new entry but at $2300 is a bit pricey. Toshiba Satellite U405-S2854 13.3-inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Black. I'll continue to use my Sony Vaio till then. I received this product last evening. Again, nothing.
Toshiba support recommended unit be returned to vendor, Amazon. Called Toshiba support who were unable to help me get system booted. Lights are on but nobody home. Have decided to defer purchase until new ssd units are available at reasonable prices. Only a knockout plastic plug was present. Also found that advertised express card slot was not available. After following their suggestion to charge battery overnight, tried again this morning.
Also, fingerprints show up like crazy on the glossy black 'fusion' finish. This model has the lower level battery, and probably won't last more than a couple of hours. The pros: it is fast, well designed, easy to use, and fairly compact. If you are interested in that, there are other models in the u405 series that have it. It doesn't really bother me at all because they wipe off very easily.
The cons: BEWARE. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and would buy it again if I had it to do over. I was looking for a compact notebook to replace my old Sony Vaio and, after much research, decided on this laptop.
Again, other models of the same series do have the bigger battery. Amazon got the photo for this product wrong - it DOES NOT come with a fingerprint reader. Another thing that is not that great is the battery life. Also i like how it runs all my old XP programs without a hitch.
It's light too - not quite as light as the Sony 13 inchers - but for me that did not justify the insane increase in price for the Sonys. So, if that's important to you, I would recommend going with one of those. It feels solid and well built, and the screen is nice and bright. I have not been disappointed, and am in fact very pleased with it.
It is thin and very light, and also it is stylish. I highly recommend toshiba, this brand is forever, I changed my old toshiba because I got bored with it, but it still works perfect. Its size is perfect because it is small enough to take it with you everywhere and also you can work accurately on it (you can read the letters because their size is not too small). I purchased this laptop a month ago and I am very satisfied.
