Toshiba SD-4000 Progressive Scan DivX Certified DVD Player Reviews

Now every disk gives "bad disk" and it won't play anything. I didn't use any of the DivX or advanced functions so can't comment on those. Not recommended. It worked OK for 10 months. About 5-10 DVDs per week, so I wouldn't call it heavy use either.

smaller files with more on one dvd, seem to pause, skip, flicker and pixelate more often than larger files with fewer, say 3 or 5, on one dvd. It's great. skips sometimes.

Works amazing with commercial dvds. Short: Great player. the pixelation was very apparent when I first used the player, but after a week or so, it went away, and hasn't been seen in months. Long: I bought this player to finally have my own dvd player since my dvd drive in laptop got stupid and stopped working.

I burned some avi files to multiple dvds. I'd recommend another, actually thinking about another for my mother and/or some friends.

Not only does the player now keep the sound in sync with the visuals, but the player seems a bit more responsive than before and now it appears to have perfectly seamless layer changes. Curiously enough, however, the update can only be found at the Toshiba Canada website. Oh, and do understand that this player will not upscale video. Like others, I have had audio sync issues. Once the update is applied, it's a good basic player. It will only deinterlace 480i to 480p. I have recently updated the firmware on the player and there is definitely improvement. There are a couple of things that I wished were in the player, such as a more informative display panel instead of merely indicating what chapter the player is on, but it's good otherwise.

Easy to use. This player is less expensive than the stores. It plays good and is so slim that it is almost unoticable.

All are working well in a commercial video studio. They are also easily controlled by Extron conference room equipment. We use these as our "consumer" monitor decks. I have purchased 9 of these units over the past year. And for the money, you can't beat it.
