I'm going to get this full version simulator game. I had Microsoft train simulator before, but I like TRS2006 allot better, it looks and works great on my computer and is more fun to operate and watch. and the sounds of the Steam Locomotive are life like coming out of my Creative 2.1 100-watt speaker system that's plugged in to the PC mother board. And Wow. the Big Boy Steam Locomotive is allot of fun to watch it run in this Demo,it so cool. I really like how the details look in this game and how it runs real good on my PC, My Computer has a intel P4 2.8 GHz chip, 512MB's of ram, an ATI Pro-98 video card with 128MB's of video ram.
Almost all of the download able content has problems but most of them work, may have areas showing wireframe but still usable. If you like model trains you should love it. You can even upload your favorite track for others to use if you so wish. The tracks and trains on the disk are fine and the ones you can order to go with it are great. This is a simulator. I found myself sitting here "messing" with it for eight hours at one sitting so yes it is very addictive.
I love Train Sims,(Plane and Truck sims too).But this one here is fun. If you like to just drive the train, Go get Microsoft Train Sim., But if you want to just do your own thing,(Working the train yard,Choose your own loads,ect) Then Trainz is what you need. to hunt up if you want to play Plus its a Load and Leave. No C.D.
The main difference is that the various equipment pieces were very accurately detailed in my models, not so in the game software. Here we have an imitation railroading experience that reminds me of the days when I had an H-O model railroad layout. The one advanage with this game is that it is interactive with other gamers with the same software thru the internet, but overall rather disappointing.
I have to assume they were a problem with the game software. In addition the software contained many "glitches" (freeze-framing, unresponsive to inputs at times, etc). With Trainz there seems to be a lack of realism in both the interiors of the various locomotive cabs and in the exterior illustrations.
The steam locomotive sounds are a big disapointment as they are neither realistic nor even timed to the rate of speed of travel; same with diesel locos. One engine cab is totally bereft of controls, guages, and other detailing. that I was unable to adjust out with my computer.
I bought this game and in true MS form; it was a hassle from the time I opened the box. If your looking to take a train ride don't pick this one. I was so impressed I gave it away. Much too complicated for the average person or kid; steep learning curve.
