TRENDnet TK-207K Version v1.1R 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit Includes 2x KVM Cables Reviews
I'm using the Microsoft 4000 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo. Whenever this happened the keyboard/mouse were unreponsive for about a second. I got in touch with Trendnet tech support to see if this was a known issue. They've had plenty of time to get it right.
However, their recommended solution left a lot to be desired. I bought this KVM to switch between my Windows XP machine and a Linux machine running Gentoo Linux. It's not like wireless is something new. To their credit, they were very quick to respond to a couple of my emails. Everything worked as expected with the Windows machine, but with the linux machine the keyboard/mouse were disconnecting every 5-6 seconds.
Not the answer I wanted to hear. Anyway, I bought a IOgear USB KVM for about the same price as what I paid for this one and everything works the way it's supposed to. Basically, they told me that they were aware of problems with wireless devices and that I should switch to a wired setup.
I acquired this device so that I can connect my desktop and Xbox 360 to my LCD monitor. Nonetheless, you don't have to have both devices for the switch kit to work. I would recommend this product for anyone who wants to get hi-definition from their Xbox 360, but cannot afford a TV. From the fist day that I acquire this product to this day, it has worked flawlessly. It's easy to switch from desktop to Xbox and Xbox to desktop.
It also does not work well with my Logitech MX300 mouse. Cons:. It suits my needs and gets the job done efficiently. Despite the mouse problems and the mediocre port design this is a very good budget KVM. It takes about 2-4 seconds to switch between PCs. You could leave it laying behind your desk but I like using the buttons on top of it versus the keyboard. The age old question to the salesman is "Would you recommend one to your parents.". The KVM switch itself is not cheap looking by any means.
So you're stuck with leaving it laying on your desk with the wires going everywhere. They could not offer me any solutions and suggested I try a different mouse. Quite acceptable from a USB KVM switch. I would have preferred it be wider and all the ports be in the back. The software is quite simple; very basic/no frills. Yes, indeed I would. Their responses were professional but did take a few hours. Pros:.
The scroll wheel works intermittently. It looks like it was designed to be smaller and take up less space, however because of the positioning of the ports the cables make this thing about 4-6 inches in diameter. If this were a PS2 connection I'm sure it'd be much faster. It's made of good quality plastic and the cables that are sent with it are pretty good too. Also, there is no way to mount it to a surface. I contacted tech support on through their online help desk. :). No big deal, I need a new one anyway.
All other features on my mouse work fine including middle mouse button click via the scroll wheel. It is very easy to setup. A microsoft optical mouse works just fine. Exactly what I expect from a something in this price range. Summary:. While they did not offer to fix the KVM they told me I would need to purchase a different mouse. I don't think you'll find a better budget KVM switch.
I would recommend this product. I did not have any problems unless I switched back and forth quickly then it took about a minute longer. This switch kit worked just as I expected. Also, it was deleivered in a timely manner. Many gave a reveiw it was slow switching. I have XP on one computer and Vista on a new computer.
Sometimes the other computer completely freezes upabout once a day. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I wonder if the rave reviews were planted. Totally underwhelmed by Trendnet. I bought this based on one of the multi-star recommendations that appear here. I've been using for three months. I fell for the cheap price. It doesn't switch instantly always a delay.
