Universal World-wide Travel Adapter Reviews

My solution is to slip off the front part, with the plugs, and just take the back and whatever adapter I need. Off to look for other options. HOWEVER the American plug from my Sony eReader will NOT fit into the holes available, which makes this pretty useless. As other reviewers have said, this is too bulky to use for trips to a single country unless you plan to use it as a surge protector, which this allegedly does and is why I bought it. And, as another reviewer pointed out, it doesn't work with European outlets which require a ground.

So far, I was able to work on everywhere (make sure the voltage is correct, this is not a transformer) and the USB charger is very useful itself. I have been using this adapter for the past three weeks in Europe and Asia.

Especially with the weight of the adapter and whatever you are charging, it can be a challenge to get it to stay in this type of outlet. Thank goodness I tested this before leaving home - it will be staying here. The USB light on the adapter came on when the iPhone was connected, but it did not charge. Here's why:. 2) It was unclear to me when purchasing this item exactly which plug configurations this "universal" adapter had, so hopefully this is helpful to someone - this item has a standard US two-pronged plug; Australia plug (same as US, but prongs are slightly turned in toward each other at the top); UK plug (two thick parallel rectangular prongs, with a vertical rectangular prong below; and "EU" plug (two thin, round prongs).

I am a frequent international traveler, and usually need to charge an iPhone, Blackberry, camera, external photo storage device, video camera and sometimes laptop (all dual-voltage) while on vacation. I bought this product hoping it would streamline the multiple adapters I usually bring with me, as well as for the USB port, so that I could bring only the USB cord for my iPhone, and leave the bulkier charger/plug part at home. So, I plugged in my iPod to try that.the ipod recognized that it was plugged in (turning on from inactive mode) but also did not charge, and this time, the USB light on the adapter didn't even come on and it froze my iPod, making it impossible to control until disconnected. They suggest that the two round-pronged EU plug will work.

1) Unless you are planning to travel to numerous regions using 4 or more different types of plugs, you are better off just bringing individual adapters. I personally have had problems in the past doing so with an identical plug, as the two-pronged plugs are slightly smaller than those with three prongs, and may not fit snugly in the outlet. Unfortunately, this product is now sitting in my junk drawer.

3) Most importantly, the USB port did not work to charge my iPhone. Anyway, this "universal" adapter does not provide a solution for the very common EU round grounded-type outlets (which take plugs with 3 round prongs). For example, my individual UK and other Europe adapters are much smaller and weigh only about half as much as the Sunpak.

Just be gentle with it because they used cheap plastic construction. I purchased this ADAPTER (it's not a voltage converter). Otherwise it gets the job done. However, in all fairness, it works. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is its flimsy and cheap construction. for a trip through France so that I could charge my iPod and use a hair dryer.

Again, it's an ADAPTER, NOT A VOLTAGE CONVERTER. It worked perfectly. This creates the possibility of losing it. This adapter even accepts the US 3-prong grounded plugs. I also like the indicator lights that tell you when its functions are working. Also, one of the "adapters within the adapter" fits inside the unit (you can see it in the product picture, at the top near the USB plug), and must be removed for use.

it does not stepdown UK 240v to USA 120v), that its not its purpose, if you want a step down converter look for something else. I gave this adapter 5 stars cos it does what it's supposed to, it lets you connect your domestic electric devices into foreign plugs. However, this device does not step down current (i.e. This is an all in one adapter that is very convenient to have when traveling.
