V-Tech CS5111 5.8GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Silver/Black)
Vtech 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID
The Vtech CS5111 Cordless Phone with Caller ID operates on the enhanced 5.8 GHz frequency for clear reception that won't interfere with WiFi networks in your home. The handset features a large, lighted display that makes for easy viewing. The CS5111 is caller ID/call waiting compatible, which tells you the name, number, time and date of incoming calls, even when you're already on the phone. It stores the information of the last 45 callers. The phone has a phonebook directory that stores 20 names and numbers which can be dialed with the touch of a button. There are also nine speed dial presets and an indicator alerting you of a waiting voicemail. Users can choose from a set of ringtones to personalize their phone. The handset fits comfortably in the hand and the phone includes a wall mount bracket for placement options.

V-Tech CS5111 5.8GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Silver/Black) Reviews
Phone works well. No interference. If you enter the number first and then press on, the phone is very slow to dial the number. Of course you can turn on the phone first and dial, but I'm used to the other way as with cell phones.
Its a good buy for the price that we pay. Though the sound quality is not very good (sometimes there is an echo), it surely works as an extra phone in my home.
Recently, I got a Nettalk TK6000 (device that competes against MagicJack and Ooma) to make phone calls over the internet. I was looking for a cordless phone to use that would be easy to operate and have decent sound quality.
I checked out two other cordless phones, but decided to use this one. I already had one phone around the house. It was a 5.8ghz Uniden brand that had a built in answering machine. However the phone contained too much static. Then I went and bought a Panasonic Dect 6.0 cordless phone. I loved the features of the Panasonic but had one problem. After making a call for about 1 1/2 hours, the phone gave me a headache. I think from the Dect 6.0 technology (the handset and base of these phones constantly send out tiny microwave pulses of radiaton). So I decided to return the Panasonic and found the Vtech CS5111.
Here's what I like:
- sound quality is good (not crystal clear, but free of static) - nice ergonomics (properly sized keys, sized to fit ear and mouth well -- unlike small cell phone like ones) - Wi-FI friendly - won't interfere with wireless networks - 5.8 Ghz technology (lower technology than the newer Dect 6.0, but I'll pass on the microwave pulses) - keys are protected with plastic so they won't wear off or get ruined if wet
Here's what I dislike:
- dim backlighting (The box shows bright backlighting but the phone is not. The light is about as bright as dim lighting of a lcd watch) - battery indicator (The box shows a constant batter indicator, but in reality that only shows when the battery is low) - directory (only holds a total of 20 contacts) - dialing programmed calls (there's a delay about 20 seconds after programmed dialing and when the called phone rings)
One other general note about cordless phones. I wished more companies would start using standard sized (AAA or AA) batteries instead of unique cordless phone batteries specific for that phone. The Panasonic used AAA rechargeable metal hydride batteries. That was a nice touch.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the Vtech CS51111. I feel like Goldilocks. The Uniden had to much static. The Panasonic Dect 6.0 gave me a headache. The Vtech fit just right!
To me cordless phones have been getting worse over the years. Since this was my first purchase with V-tech, didn't know what to expect. The phone was in my garbage can after 1 year! Awful sound, NO battery life, swapped out the battery but still not much better. I did give V-tech one more try but story ended up being the same.
I was looking for a relatively inexpensive phone with lots of features, but especially a signal for unanswered voicemails and a "find headset" feature. This phone has both and, although I often leave it off the cradle for a couple days or more, the battery never seems low. This was a good purchase for me!
