HDTV 720p ready, it boasts resolutions up to 1,280 x 1,024, a 30 ms response time, and an anti-glare screen treatment that reduces harmful reflections and helps alleviate eye-strain. A 350:1 contrast ratio and 250 nits cd/m2 (typical) of brightness deliver easy-to-read text and crisp images, perfect for a wide variety of home and professional uses. A thin 0.67-inch bezel also makes this a perfect choice for multiple-monitor setups, while 160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles provide image clarity from virtually all directions.

The VP181B supports both analog and digital signals; it connects to your computer via 15-pin mini D-sub/digital DVD-I. An integrated USB 2.0 high-speed hub permits quick connection of peripherals. The VP181B is also VESA plug-and-play certified, ready to use right out of the box. The small 16.1-by-9.8-inch footprint fits easily onto any convenient surface, while the VESA wall-mount interface frees up desktop space completely. That means that for a single page of text or a portrait orientation picture, it is as good as a 1600 x 1280 screen. Nobody has mentioned that this monitor can be rotated by 90 degrees to give portrait orientation.

The 18" screen really shows a nice and vivid picture. Nice bright/clear display. I'm only using the VGA input right now (my graphics adapter doesn't have DVI.but my next adapter will and I'm now ready for that since this monitor can handle both).Setup was also extremely easy without any troubles.

It's absolutely perfect. I've had two of these monitors for a couple months now and continue to marvel at them. The pivot capability is also totally cool. As far as the 30ms refresh rate, I've played Madden 2004 for over 50 hours on this monitor and never noticed any lag whatsoever. No dead pixels on either one and the image quality is as good as it gets.

However, when i saw that Viewsonic was coming out with a new model in their vp series I was intrigued to see how it performed. I definitely made the right choice. After having used my Dell Ultrasharp display for about a year, it was like looking into the sun. Here are some of the advantages that changed my mind:- About $100 cheaper to get a 18" instead of 19" (Note: The screen resolution is the same for both 1280x1028 the 19" just stretches it more).

- The vp181b has dual inputs (analog/digital) and a 4 port USB hub built in.

Once I had it out of the box and hooked up, I was instantly impressed with the amazing brightness and contrast.

- Cable managed prongs on the back to keep everything nice and organized.

After looking at Samsung's 19T and other models I thought i had made up my mind on the Samsung.

- The vbXXXb's allow for portrait mode; this feature is very nice if you are a college student and write a lot of papers like I do, in fact, you can see an entire page in MS Word and it makes surfing the web easier as you can see more on the page.Basically though, I would recommend this display to anyone that is a college student, graphics professional, or just someone who likes a well built display.

Knowing others with excellent experiences with them i decided to purchase the vp181b without actually ever seeing it in a store.

- Extremely sturdy base, it looks like a penguin, however it is unbelievable well designed and rotates very fluidly.

- It's a Viewsonic and they are known for excellent quality products.
