With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the VPW5500 is a mere 4.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (desktop stand and wall mount not included). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in--wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen--especially critical to keep in mind if you'll be using the set for PC work and viewing. The display is compatible with both standard- and high-definition signals, including 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Clear Picture electronics eliminate noise, increase contrast and detail, and optimize color for a rich, vibrant image. Meanwhile, progressive scan, motion-adaptive de-interlacing and 3-D comb filter technology provide smooth, life-like pictures without jagged lines and signal noise. Connections include composite-video, component-video, S-video, analog RGB, a DVI-I (Digital Visual Interface for PC) with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), and an RS-232C control interface (RS-232 cable not included).
