Simple step by step instructions make the installation very easy. The modem installs very easily with Win 2000.
I had a gateway 36.6 which was bumped off aol all the time and slow. This modem is priced right This is a reliable, fast and a pleasant addition. The card was cheaper then the Zoom and the 3 Com. I'm more than satisfied for the price, warranty and technical support. It is a terrific value. I received the viking PCMCIA card and used the technicalsupport to load the modem.
I also had an installation problem involving missing driver files. It was easy enough to download the necessary files from the Viking website, but you'd think that a company that makes such a great product would get it right the first time.
Takes you through step by step and no problems and worked with no adjusting needed. New to installing hardware but this was so easy I could not believe it. Will be ordering another one soon for my other laptop coming in.
I also have a Viking memory upgrade in my Sony laptop. I am also impressed with the ability for the modem to connect in remote/rural areas as well. The connection is right around 49K consistently. I purchased this modem a month ago. I had previosly owned a Viking FM56KPA (also offered on Amazon) that I gave to my son when he took the laptop to college.
Not the case with this one. I travel often and usually just find the closest phone line to plug into in order to check email messages and use the internet. It is a simple industry standard RJ-11 to Honda connector.Excellent product backed by a very reputable company.P.S. I decided I didn't really use the cellular phone capabilities offered with the FM56KPA much so I decided to save the money by puchasing the FM56KPCC instead.The installation was a snap. Awesome.
Lastly, I am very impressed with a feature of the modem that normally goes unnoticedthe cable. I have had a great connection speed everytime. Most modems have a cable that if it breaks or you loose it you have to buy a new modem.
