VTech 6042 DECT 6.0 Two-Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID Reviews

I think the Engineers who designed this phone need to do better. I have a much older panasonic which gives me much better battery life. But this phone is not functional. But I cannot forgive the battery life issues. I have decided to stick only with panasonics in the future and will not recommend vtech phones to anyone. This makes this phone a failure. I bought this phone falling for its cool design.

Also the phone menu design is also not good compared to panasonic phones. It just fails without adequate warning. The battery life is awful. I can forgive the menu design.

You can't add handsets later. I finally broke down and called Vtech. I consider that a major rip-off and will never buy from Vtech again. I bought the basic base station and single extra handset to see how I liked it, and I liked it well enough I wanted to upgrade to more handsets. So I googled, and no matter what I looked at or where I could *NOT* find additional handsets, which I now need. I'll say, first off, that the basic phone system has been fine for my needs. But amazon does not seem to offer any way to get additional handsets.

I'm not a power user and have not used any additional functions. The product description right here at amazon says: "upgradable to include additional handsets". They told me you can *ONLY* get additional handsets when you buy the base station initially. I think the phones are sleek and stylish, and they work fine.

If you have a large list, this might take some time to do. We assumed it was another 5.8 GHz phone, but learned this cordless phone from VTech uses the new DECT 6.0 digital technology. (This review was originally done 8/07 we have had no issues with any of the units since then). * Interference free for crystal clear conversations won't interfere with wireless networks and other electronic devices. * 15 minutes of recording time.

Programming the phone was really quite easy we were able to program phone numbers into a handset without looking at the instruction booklet. We were able to walk outside while talking on a handset, and the sound was still was very clear. * User's manual. It's a newly available frequency that provides better security and superior quality of voice and sound than older 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz models.

Cordless phones that stand upright are more visible and can be placed on smaller surfaces. * Telephone line cord. * Caller ID/call waiting (if you have this service) stores 50 calls. Holding the handset between the shoulder and ear was not easy nor as comfortable as a bulkier cordless phone, but since each handset comes with a speakerphone, We were able to put the phone down and go "hands free" whenever necessary. The first thing we noticed about this phone was it's good looks. Less bulk makes it more comfortable to hold in your hands, or even your back pocket. The sound from the digital answering machine was very clear, and it didn't have the usual "computerized voice" that we've experienced with many other answering machines.

We were skeptical but decided to give this phone a try. For the most important test of clarity this phone passes with flying colors. We noticed right away that these handsets do not stand upright like other cordless phone handsets. MyParenTime.com highly recommends the VTech 6042 Two Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID if you're looking for a clear-sounding, nice-looking, secure cordless phone, this one's for you.

The display window is large and lights up with a blue glow, as well as the keypad. Speaking of the phone directory.each handset needs to be programed individually. Very, very useful feature :). * Handset volume control.

And each handset can be programmed to display whose handset belongs to whom. This phone system comes as either a two-handset system with a digital answering machine (which we reviewed), or a one-handset without any answering capabilities. The VTech 6042 telephone system that we reviewed included the following items:. Have you heard of DECT 6.0. * Backlit message counter. But it's really easy enough, so again, there wasn't much of an issue.

* Bilingual prompts choose between English or Spanish. * AC adapters. * 2 battery packs. * Digital security protects you from identity theft your calls are digitized and encrypted, making it nearly impossible for someone to eavesdrop.

No more shouting between rooms just push a button and you can reach someone in another part of the house.or even outside. But the fact that this phone doesn't stand upright turned out not to be much of an issue for us. * Quick start guide. When first asked to do this review we thought.ah, this is just another cordless phone whose sound breaks up when you walk a few feet away from the base. * Audible time and date stamp on recorded messages. This might be a feature that you require in a cordless phone. * 2 handsets, base unit and additional charging unit. How convenient is that.

Just plug the smaller charging unit in and you're good to go. Below are just a few of the features of this phone system:. It doesn't have the typical cordless phone "look." The keypad on the handset reminds us of a cell phone, and its slim design means there is less bulk. We've used other cordless phones that were always interrupted by static or other electronic equipment, but this phone stayed clear on every call.even on speakerphone.

A good thing about the second handset is, that it does not require a phone jack. * WiFi friendly won't interfere with wireless networks. Another handy feature is that each handset has an intercom button. * 50 name and number phonebook directory easily store and dial frequently called numbers. This is good to have when you are living with other family members you each can program your own phone directory into your own handset, and you'll always know whose handset is whose.

* Remote message retrieval call in from anywhere to get your messages. The VTech 6042 feature speakerphones in each handset. This modern design is very attractive but we wondered if this phone had brains to go with these good looks. * Selectable ring tones.

While this phone is aesthetically pleasing and it has a speakerphone worthy of the title 'best ever from a cordless handset' if lacks in two crucial areas: First, the battery life is dismal, giving you at most 15 minutes of talk time, especially infuriating when you are on hold with customer services for 12 minutes and as soon as the representative picks up the battery breathes it's last breath. In closing, DON'T BUY THIS PHONE, unless you need an excuse for "accidentally hanging up" on a clingy, psychotic girlfriend. Second, when it's been sitting on the charger for a while the battery gets hot; not enough to burn you, but ehough to annoy you.

I returned those and requested a refund. What a waste of my time. The replacement VTech phones stopped signaling incoming calls after about ten minutes. Then I discovered that they had not been signaling with a ring when I had incoming calls.

I returned the phones and, unfortunately, requested a new set of the same product. Manufacturer did "Troubleshoot" and deemed the phones defective. I purchased a Panasonic phone system locally and it is great.

I liked my original VTech cordless phones for about two days.
