I needed a harddrive to use in an automated back-up system that would turn itself on, activate, then back-up six computers as scheduled, then shut down the six computer and itself. This product has speed, durability, and performance to accomplish this. Although I have had this product for only a few months, it has functioned as required. Only an RE version might have been a better choice.
Arrived in great shape, No problems installing and putting on a clean install of windows xp home.
Not sure if i see much speed increases but after others have said some were DOA, I was a little worried mine might be also but all is well and running good.
Never a problem with WD Black. Plug it in, set the Dell BIOS to "on", fire it up, rename the drives and use it. I'm not running RAID, it's just another drive that I do a manual back up on. This is an OEM so don't forget to get a sata cable.
This is a very high performance drive with an excellent warranty and a great price/performance ratio - I use it in all of my PC builds and recommend it highly to anyone who is building their own PC or looking to upgrade or replace the drive in an existing PC. The combination of a 7,200RPM rotational speed and a 32MB cache give the WD5001AALS outstanding performance for all but the most demanding tasks, and it has plenty of space for most home and business users needs (unless you're storing large quantities of media, then you should be putting that on separate, preferably redundant drives anyway.)
It scores an excellent 5.9 disk score in Windows 7 and comes with a 5 year warranty. What else could one want out of a 500GB drive that sells for around $65?
very good price for the storage amount, has not given me any problems at all. Was very easy to install.
