Western Digital 500GB 3.5", SATA, 16MB Cache Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD5000AAKS Reviews

However, you will need a free SATA power connector(there is no legacy connector). A great replacement hard drive.

It works very well, and was my first SATA install. A jumper was required to configure the drive for the controller, but as this was an OEM package, it didn't come with one. The only problem I had was that my motherboard's SATA controller is a couple of years older, and did not support the high data rate of this drive. I use Debian Linux with a packaged kernel, and found no problems at all between this drive and the OS.

It has performed well up to this point. I fear that it will die, as my previous Western Digital drive did. I received the product in just a few days, which was a +; however, after less than a month of operation, it has become very noisy.

I think I got a defective one because HDDs are NOT supposed to vibate too much especially 7200 rpm drives. I don't know if it's just the one I received but mine vibrates more than normal and causes my computer case to make noise. The drive itself does not rattle or anything but it vibrates. It sounds like the platters or something inside is not balanced hence the vibration.

It's working well so far. Purchased this for additional drive in one of my PCs.
