I built my 'super computer' a year ago with two of these drives. They said I could get my money back. So my success rate with Western Drives is 50% which is horrible. I tried to get support for this drive and couldn't get any. I WANTED MY DATA BACK. I decided to try WD because of the price and recommendations.
I was mortified. Western Digital - Never again. This does not speak well for WD. My success rate with Maxtor drives (I have owned over ten) is 100%.
my main drive began clicking. Everything was fine until only 4 months. Boot would see the drive but windows XP did not. I have used Maxtor drives for the past 20 years with NO problems.
I tried everything but could no longer access the drive. Built my desktop beast with screaming Intel Dual Core plus 4GB ram (a lot at the time), 500 Meg Video, two 500gb WD drives.
All in all it gives me pleanty of space and my system boots and runs a lot faster. They tell you what you need to do and then tell you wont have to because it is automatic (not). It seems like after a couple of years no matter what you had before you always outgrow your hard drive. I had put together a computer for home use a few years ago (P4) with a sata 1 motherboard. And my Office 2007 boots up at least 2x faster.
Fortunately all the files for outlook worked once I reinstall Office. The copy protect makes office not work quite right and I could not uninstall it and reinstall it after it was copied onto the new drive. The other glitch was I needed to use the jumper they supplied to make it SATA1 for my motherboard. It turns out you need to uninstall office 2007, use the included copy software to coppy the drive, and then reinstall office 2007. I replaced the drive with this new Sata2 drive with only a couple of glitches.
It worked OK but was getting full of pictures and I was experimenting with video, and my son started putting on 5 and 10 gb games. I was too cheap at the time to do Sata and did a 120gb eied drive instead.
So far so good I have a 350 and two 250mb that are almost 2 years old and two 250mb that are almost a year old and two 500mb that are over a month old. Got this very fast. These caviar hard drives seem to be reliable.
buy it. __________________________. A very quiet hard disk, with a lot of space, and its really fast, it offers fast access to files. muy buen disco duro, rapidisimo, con mucho espacio, y no hace nada de ruido. expectacular.
Horrible drive. Rediculous and very disappointing. All the hours would come out to thousands of dollars. I wish I could sue these junk manufacturers for all the time they caused me to flush down the toilet. Steer clear, of this product.it is unreliable. The drive is unreadable and all my pictures and video are now lost.
