Another thing that's probably been mentioned in the other reviews, it's very well designed and contrary to what I was anticipating before using this thing, it's almost unoticable when connected to the controller, it doesn't add enough weight to notice and it's still comfortable to hold while gaming. I don't use this for chatting at all, but I've found this to be an excellent addition to my other 360 accesories for 1 reason. I have a lot of music stored on my 360 and it's a real pain going through and naming everything using the controller alone. It comes with a headset which I'll use to communicate on live instead of messing with the text messenger. Not a must have accesory, but far from useless and unecessary. Personally I think it looks pretty cool too. The chatpad makes this tedious process a breeze in comparision.
But this is perfect for much quicker IM. If you don't use IM then don't bother with this.
It's good to have if your mic is broken or you dont like to talk much, plus it has extra stuff that goes along with MSN. But if you like to send voice messages then its not for you. If you are a person who texts alot this is for you.
Unfortunately, the rest of my headsets don't plug into the headset port but rather into the controller itself. The only problem I had with the chat pad was after a short period of time, the headset that came with the package stopped working. I absolutely love the chat pad. Not to mention, made typing messages extremely fast. So I gave up switching back and forth and now the pad sits unused, gathering dust. It's still a great product and I recommend it to my customers all the time, just watch out for the headset. It was so much easier instant messaging my friends while playing a game online, with minimal interruption.
Makes IM much easier and faster. My 13 yr old uses it and loves it. I think.
